The effervescent Tim Speed Levitch in The Cruise

I am enthralled by my latest (albeit rather late) discovery of the ever poetic and ingenious Timothy “Speed” Levitch, featured in Bennett Miller’s 1998 documentary The Cruise.

“Speed” is a tour guide for Manhattan’s Gray Line double-decker buses and delivers New York history, factoids and personal observations in an irreplaceable fashion. His tours, or “cruises” he likes to call them, overflows with wit, drama and passion. Watching him is like listening to a symphony of creative verbiage and beautiful wild poetry. He even raves on and on about terra cotta!!

Although he’s moved to Kansas City in 2007, he’s still leads special occasion tours in NYC. Most definitely want to tour with him in NYC next time I’m there!!
